If Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds receives an invitation to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York City on Dec. 12, he’ll arrive at the Downtown Athletic Club in style.
The annual Army-Navy game is scheduled for the same day in Philadelphia. After the game, Reynolds would fly from Philly to Manhattan via helicopter. For real. Navy already has it all planned out.
If Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds gets invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Dec. 12, he will fly on a helicopter from the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia to New York for the show. Navy, where details are pretty important, already has everything planned out to the minute. Two helicopters would take a party of nine people, including Reynolds and his family, for about a 30-minute flight to New York, where a landing pad is 1.3 miles from the site of the ceremony. A car would be waiting to quickly take him to the ESPN show.
The game scheduled to kick off just after 3 p.m. – five hours before the ceremony begins at 8 p.m. – so Reynolds will have to move quickly.
"If we get him out of there by 7 o'clock and the game is over by 6:20 or 6:30, he should land in time," Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk told CBS. "How dramatic would it be if he walks in even when the show is under way? He comes walking down with his Navy blues on. 'Excuse me, fellas. Sorry I'm late,' and he sits down."
Reynolds, a senior, set the FBS record for career rushing touchdowns this season. Overall, he has 1,093 yards and 19 touchdowns rushing this season to go along with 964 passing yards and six more scores.
The Navy program has been heavily pushing Reynolds' candidacy.
The Midshipmen dropped to 9-2 on the season with a loss to Houston last Saturday. The program has already accepted a bid to play in the Military Bowl on Dec. 28 in Annapolis, Md., against an ACC opponent.
