Reports: Willie Fritz agrees to be next coach at Tulane

Tulane has reportedly found its new coach.

According to ESPN's Brett McMurphy and the Advocate's Scott Kushner, the school has reached an agreement with Georgia Southern coach Willie Fritz.

Fritz, 55, has been with Georgia Southern for the past two seasons. The school hired him away from Sam Houston State when it made the transition to FBS football and the Sun Belt Conference. Fritz is 17-7 over the past two seasons and Georgia Southern is heading to the GoDaddy Bowl this season after finishing the regular season 8-4.

The Eagles lead the country in rushing yards per game at nearly 356. The option-based attack has averaged nearly 6.5 yards a carry in 2015 and accounted for 47 touchdowns. Tulane averaged 116 yards rushing (118th in the country) and had 11 rushing touchdowns in 2015.

The Green Wave fired coach Curtis Johnson after the conclusion of the season. It was the second straight year the Green Wave had gone 3-9 after a New Orleans Bowl appearance following the 2013 season.

Fritz has a career record of 154-69 at Central Missouri, Sam Houston State and Georgia Southern. While at Sam Houston State he took the team to two-straight title games and had just two sub-.500 seasons in 13 seasons at Central Missouri.

His arrival to the AAC is another win for the conference. Houston coach Tom Herman and Temple coach Matt Rhule agreed to extensions with their employers while Central Florida hired former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost and Memphis hired former Arizona State offensive coordinator Mike Norvell to replace Justin Fuente, who went to Virginia Tech.
