Houston head coach Tom Herman is certainly a man of his word.
Before the Cougars’ American Athletic Conference-winning season, the first-year head coach told his players he’d get a grill if they won the conference. The team checked off that accomplishment with a win over Temple on Dec. 5, so on Tuesday, with the help of rapper Paul Wall and jeweler Johnny Dang, Herman was fitted for a diamond grill.
The design, which will be unveiled next week, was chosen in conjunction with a group of players known as the “grill committee.” According to ESPN.com, Dang said Herman’s grill will be worth “a little less than $15,000.”
Wall, a Grammy nominated rapper who also attended the University of Houston, even hinted that a new song about the football team could be in the works, but not until after the season.
The 18th-ranked Cougars are currently 12-1 headed into the Dec. 31 Peach Bowl against Florida State in Atlanta.
Will Herman’s new grill make the trip to Georgia? Doubtful.
“Not very often,” Herman told reporters when asked how much he’d wear the grill. “The next time I go see (Paul Wall) perform, I’ll wear it, I’ll tell you that.”
