Three weeks after going public with his decision to leave Kentucky, Towles announced Friday that he will transfer to Boston College. Towles graduated from Kentucky this week and will be eligible to play immediately for Boston College.

Towles, a redshirt junior quarterback, started 22 of Kentucky’s last 24 games before being benched in favor of Drew Barker in the Wildcats’ final two games. In 10 starts this year, Towles threw for 2,148 yards, nine touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Towles started all 12 games for Kentucky in 2014, throwing for 2,718 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also threw for 233 yards, one touchdown and an interception as a true freshman in 2012. He redshirted the 2013 season.

Towles will join a Boston College team that struggled mightily on offense in 2015. Despite boasting the best defensive in the country statistically, the Eagles finished just 3-9 on the season.

Four different quarterbacks – freshman John Fadule, redshirt freshman Troy Flutie, freshman Jeff Smith and sophomore Darius Wade – saw significant action for the Eagles in 2015. Wade began the season as the starter, but suffered a season-ending ankle injury.

The group struggled to throw the ball with any consistency and Towles, who will be a fifth-year senior, immediately projects as the team’s top option at the position.

BC head coach Steve Addazio is no stranger to the benefit of adding a graduate transfer quarterback. Addazio brought in Tyler Murphy from Florida prior to the 2014 season and he earned the starting role.
