And then there were no FBS head coaching vacancies.
Georgia Southern announced it has has agreed with Tyson Summers to be the team's next head coach. Summers is currently the defensive coordinator at Colorado State.
"Besides the day I married my wife and the days my children were born, this is right up there as one of the most exciting moments in my life," Summers said in a team statement. "This is home for my wife, Beth, and I and we're excited to be able to get to Statesboro and carry on the proud traditions of both Georgia Southern Universit and the Eagle football program. I'm looking forward to building off the offense that is in place and continuing to progress with the defense. I'm just exceptionally excited to be a Georgia Southern Eagle."
Georgia Southern was looking for a coach after Willie Fritz left to go to Tulane. The Eagles have been at the FBS level for the past two seasons and, before Saturday, were the only FBS team to not have a head coach. BYU hired Kalani Sitake as its coach on Saturday.
Summers, a native of Tifton, Georgia, went to Colorado State with coach Mike Bobo before the 2015 season. Before he went to CSU, Summers was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Central Florida for three seasons. He coached at UAB from 2007-2011 and was an assistant at Georgia Southern in 2006.
Fritz ran a version of the triple-option at Georgia Southern and it was highly effective. Summers' teams have not run that style of offense, though it seems he will keep the option attack in place.
Georgia Southern finished the season 8-4 and plays Bowling Green in the GoDaddy Bowl on Wednesday. The game is a battle of interim coaches as Bowling Green's Dino Babers was hired as Syracuse's new coach. Dell McGee will coach GSU in the bowl game.
