Kentucky has reportedly found its new offensive coordinator.
According to Cats Illustrated, the school has agreed to a deal with Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran. The site said a press conference announcing the contract could come as soon as Tuesday.
The widespread expectation is that Gran will be joined in Lexington by Cincinnati quarterbacks coach Darrin Hinshaw, who previously was an assistant coach at Tennessee.
If Hinshaw does join Gran, as expected, he would coach the quarterbacks. Sources indicated that in this scenario Gran would serve as both offensive coordinator and either position coach of the running backs or receivers. The rest of Kentucky's offensive coaching staff would remain in tact although there could be some shuffling of responsibilities.
Kentucky parted ways with offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson after the season. Gran just finished his third season as Cincy's offensive coordinator. He was the running backs coach and special teams coordinator for three seasons at Florida State efore he came to Cincinnati.
Drew Barker is the only returning scholarship quarterback on the Wildcats' roster. Patrick Towles transferred to Boston College as a graduate transfer and Reese Phillips also transferred. Barker was 35-70 for 364 yards in 2015.
At Cincinnati, Gran coached an offense that was fourth in the country in passing yards per game with 373. Quarterback Hayden Moore set the school record for passing yards in a game this season when he came on in relief of Gunner Kiel vs. Memphis. The team also averaged 186 rushing yards per game.
Kentucky averaged less than 210 passing yards per game in 2015.
Cincinnati, 7-6, lost to San Diego State 42-7 in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve.
