At long last, Will Muschamp and Kurt Roper have been reunited.
Muschamp, the new head coach at South Carolina, announced Monday that he has added Kurt Roper as the Gamecocks’ co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He will share the title of co-offensive coordinator with Bryan McClendon, wo will also serve as wide receivers coach. Roper will call plays.
Roper spent the 2015 season with the Cleveland Browns after previously serving as Muschamp’s offensive coordinator at Florida in 2014.
“I’m excited to have Coach Roper joining the staff,” said Coach Muschamp. “He’s been a play-caller in the SEC, has experience in working with and developing quarterbacks like Eli Manning and former Gamecock Connor Shaw, has an NFL background, and did a great job at Duke under David Cutcliffe. We are excited for what he offers.”
Before his year with Muschamp at Florida, Roper was the offensive coordinator at Duke for six seasons. He also had stints as a running backs coach (2006-07) and graduate assistant (1996-98) at Tennessee, quarterbacks coach at Kentucky (2005_ and quarterbacks coach at Ole Miss (1999, 2004).
Muschamp was hired by South Carolina last month after he spent the 2015 season as defensive coordinator at Auburn. In his four seasons as head coach at Florida, Muschamp had a 28-21 (17-15 SEC) record.
