Shane Beamer won't be a member of Virginia Tech's coaching staff in 2016.
Georgia announced Tuesday that Beamer, the son of retired Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, would be a member of its staff. Shane Beamer will be the Bulldogs' special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
When Virginia Tech hired former Memphis coach Justin Fuente to succeed Beamer, who retired after the team's Independence Bowl win over Tulsa, it was reported that Beamer would stay on Fuente's staff. He was most recently Virginia Tech's associate head coach and running backs coach.
Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster stayed in his same capacity under Fuente.
Beamer is no stranger to the SEC as an assistant coach. Before moving to Virginia Tech in 2011, he was an assistant at South Carolina. Before he was with the Gamecocks, he was at Mississippi State and a graduate assistant at Tennessee. Beamer was a wide receiver and long snapper at Virginia Tech from 1995-1999.
