It took Penn State less than 24 hours to find their new defensive coordinator.
After losing Bob Shoop to Tennessee on Saturday, Penn State coach James Franklin announced co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Brent Pry would be the Nittany Lions’ new defensive leader.
“Brent has had a dramatic impact on our defense and our team for the last five years and he is very deserving of this opportunity to move into the defensive coordinator position,” Franklin said in a statement. “Brent’s promotion will help make this a smooth transition and allow us to continue to build one of the top defenses in the country.”
Pry has been with Franklin for more than five years dating back to their time at Vanderbilt. Pry last served as a defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern in 2010. In conjunction with being named defensive coordinator, Pry also was promoted to associate head coach.
Penn State ranked 14th nationally in total defense this past season.
