Oregon has hired Brady Hoke as its defensive coordinator, the school announced Saturday.

Hoke, 57, was fired from Michigan during the 2014 season after compiling a 31-20 record in four seasons with the Wolverines. While he struggled as a head coach, he was an excellent defensive mind. He inherited a defense that ranked 110th nationally in total defense and left the program with as the No. 7 total defense.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Coach Hoke to the Oregon family," Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said in a press release. "He's passionate, knowledgeable and tough, and has an outstanding track record of success from a defensive standpoint."

Hooe replaces Don Pellum, who was demoted from defensive coordinator to linebackers coach following the Ducks’ loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl.

The Ducks ranked last in total defense in the Pac-12 in 2015, allowing 485 yards per game.

Hoke has been named Coach of The Year in three different conferences, including the Mid-American, Mountain West and Big Ten.
