Missouri defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. was arrested Wednesday night in Columbia, Missouri, for marijuana possession.
He was indefinitely suspended from the team Thursday. Per the Columbia Tribune, the MU Police arrest log shows Beckner was arrested shortly before 10 p.m. on suspicion of possession of fewer than 35 grams of marijuana. He was allegedly pulled over after driving without his headlights on.
"I'm disappointed to learn of Terry's actions," Missouri coach Barry Odom said in a statement. "We take this very seriously and in line with our department policies, Terry has been indefinitely suspended and will face team disciplinary measures. I don't want this incident to be viewed as a representation of our athletic department or football program but we certainly understand the impact one poor decision can have. While this behavior is not acceptable, this is a very challenging societal issue that is dealt with everywhere on a daily basis and we will use this as a learning opportunity for Terry and our program."
Beckner was released after his arrest.
Missouri's top recruit in the class of 2015, Beckner became a starter on the defensive line early in the season. He was a key contributor to one of the best defenses in the SEC before he suffered a season-ending knee injury on the first play of the game against BYU. An MRI revealed he suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. Because of the injury, Beckner wasn't likely to participate fully in spring practice anyway.
He finished the season with 27 tackles, eight tackles for loss and three sacks. He was a four-star recruit and the No. 5 defensive tackle in the country according to Rivals.
