Southern Miss coach Todd Monken has accepted a position as the new offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Monken spent three seasons at Southern Miss, and after winning just three total games in his first two years, led the Golden Eagles to a Conference USA West title, a bowl game and a 9-5 overall record.

Monken had just gotten the Golden Eagles back to relevance after they spent the previous three seasons recovering from the departure of coach Larry Fedora, who went to North Carolina.

However, with this move coming just 10 days before National Signing Day, its going to be difficult for the program to maintain its high level. Southern Miss currently has the No. 2 class in Conference USA, according to Rivals.com. It has 22 overall commits, seven three-star commits, and four junior college players that joined the program in December.

Southern Miss will have to replace a lot of production on offense, but does return quarterback Nick Mullens, who was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. It also returns six starters and plenty of depth on defense.

Monken finishes his Southern Miss career 13-25 and 0-1 in bowl games.
