Idaho coach Paul Petrino is reportedly not joining his brother on Louisville's staff.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal and first reported by Football Scoop, Paul Petrino won't be the Cardinals' offensive coordinator in 2016 under his brother Bobby Petrino. Louisville is looking for an offensive coordinator after Garrick McGee went to Illinois to join new coach Lovie Smith's staff.

From the Courier-Journal:

Bobby Petrino did talk to Paul to gauge his potential interest in the job, a source said, but Paul Petrino wasn't interested because he's happy with his job with the Vandals and just signed his son, quarterback Mason Petrino, in the 2016 recruiting class.

While the optics wouldn't have been great, it made sense if Paul Petrino wanted to be Louisville's offensive coordinator. McGee made approximately $400,000 more than Petrino did as a power five offensive coordinator vs. a Sun Belt Conference head coach, and Idaho faces a very tenuous college football future.

2017 is the Vandals' last season in the Sun Belt as the conference announced that it would no longer have Idaho and New Mexico State as members in two years. Idaho's options are to go independent at the FBS level or join the Big Sky Conference in the lower-level FCS.

Had Paul Petrino made the move, he would have been the third recent non-power five coach to become an assistant at a Power Five school. Dan Enos moved from Central Michigan to be Arkansas' offensive coordinator before the 2015 season and Ball State coach Pete Lembo joined Maryland's staff this offseason.

Paul Petrino has been the coach of Idaho for the past three seasons and has a 6-29 record.
