According to police, an Akron football player shot a teammate early Saturday morning after he mistook him for a possible burglar.
Wide receiver Andrew Pratt was allegedly shot by offensive lineman Scott Boyett. The two live in separate residences in the same apartment complex and Pratt allegedly entered Boyett's residence around 3 a.m. without announcing his arrival.
Pratt was shot in the stomach and is expected to recover, per the Akron Beacon-Journal. No charges will be filed and Boyett drove him to the hospital.
Officers found Boyett in the emergency room’s waiting area and questioned him separately from Pratt.
Both players told officers the same story and Pratt, too, said he believed the shooting was “an honest mistake.”
Pratt was later transferred to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he was in stable condition.

Pratt was a senior in 2015. He had 28 catches for 280 yards and a touchdown last season. He had 324 yards in 2014.
“We are saddened and concerned to learn of this situation and we hope that Andrew recovers fully,” Akron athletic director Larry Williams said in a statement. “While we know the incident occurred at an off-campus location, we will wait to learn more from the Akron Police Department about what occurred. We are keeping Andrew in our thoughts and prayers.”
The Beacon-Journal said Boyett was a junior offensive lineman in 2015. He's not listed on Akron's roster, which is dated back to the previous season.
