Like so many others, Rep. Andy Schor, a Democrat out of Lansing, is not on board with the decision, which bans coaches from participating in camps hosted by other programs.

Big Ten staffs, mainly Jim Harbaugh and Michigan, irked SEC and ACC programs by coaching at camps across the south, which is fertile in football talent. Naturally, the leagues sought out a ban, and it came to fruition a week ago with the Big 12 and Pac-12 also voting in favor of a ban.

There seems to have been some unintended consequences to the ban, however. Now, coaches from smaller programs are no longer allowed to attend high-profile camps hosted by Power Five programs. This limits the opportunities for prospects across the country.

“The problem is not about a school coming into an area and taking away recruits from other programs, it’s about student-athletes that don’t have the funds to travel to different schools for recruiting visits having an opportunity to find that exposure,” Schor, a Michigan alum, said per MLive.com. “With the skills and determination many of these high school athletes have, it’s a shame to limit their future possibilities like this.

Schor has drafted a resolution about the issue (which can be read here), and it is directed to the NCAA.

"Eliminating a method to give young people a chance at a college education through scholarships is wrong, whether it's a bigger program or a smaller school,” Schor told MLive.com. “The NCAA, to my understanding, has always been about the student-athletes being given every opportunity to succeed. This ban goes against everything the NCAA claims to stand for."
