A Syracuse player halted the stabbing of two of his teammates by punching a former player wielding the knife according to a prosecutor on the case.
Former Syracuse cornerback Naesean Howard was arrested after allegedly stabbing defensive backs Chauncey Scissum and Corey Winfield. Per assistant district attorney Mike Manfredi, a publicly unidentified player stepped in while Howard was going after Scissum and stopped the attack. From Syracuse.com:
That's when the third player punched Howard in the face and knocked him to the ground, ending the unprovoked attack April 16 at an outdoor barbecue on South Campus and possibly saving Scissum's life, according to assistant district attorney Mike Manfredi.
"This individual did something that was very heroic given the dangerousness and volatility of the situation," Manfredi said. "Nobody was ready for this, and he was the only one who acted in a way to defend his fellow player."
Howard, who last played for the Orange in 2014, allegedly stabbed the two players on April 16. He recently had re-enrolled in the school and was suspended following his arrest. The stabbing allegedly happened at a party and Howard fled after the alleged attacks occured.

"He just inexplicably went up to Mr. Winfield and attacked him and then turned around and then immediately attacked Mr. Scissum, who was sitting very close nearby," Manfredi said. Howard allegedly stabbed Winfield in four areas including his back and chest while Scissum was allegedly stabbed in the neck, chest and shoulder.
The unidentified player who allegedly punched Howard did not sustain any injuries. Howard has pled not guilty to a charge of first-degree assault.
