Kirk Merritt is headed to the SEC.
Two weeks after announcing his intention to leave the University of Oregon, Merritt revealed Friday that he will transfer to Texas A&M.

Merritt, a wide receiver, played in 12 games during his only season at Oregon and caught five passes for 61 yards. He also played on special teams and had two tackles. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound speedster was a four-star recruit in the 2015 class and considered the 12th-best prospect in his home state of Louisiana.

Along with Alabama and Auburn, A&M was one of Merritt’s four finalists coming out of Destrehan High in suburban New Orleans. Instead, Merritt opted to go across the country and play for the Ducks, but decided to transfer in June “due to family situations.” Merritt was expected to compete for significant playing time for Oregon following the graduation of Bralon Addison and Byron Marshall.
Now at A&M, Merritt will sit out the 2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules. The season will essentially serve as a redshirt season and Merritt will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2017.
