Wide receiver Sam Bruce, a 2016 signee for Miami, may be suspended for part of the season.

According to the Miami Herald, any suspension for Bruce would be for a photo he took with a firearm while a senior in high school. Bruce withdrew from his high school in February after he had signed his letter of intent with the Hurricanes. From the Herald:

Bruce made the photo of himself with the weapon because of a dispute with a former Aquinas male student, a dispute centered around Bruce’s ex-girlfriend. A source said the photo ended up in the hands of the former student, who then called police and Aquinas. No charges were ever filed.

The report also said Bruce’s suspension would be longer than the one Mississippi State gave five-star freshman defensive end Jeffery Simmons. MSU’s top recruit was suspended for the season opener and allowed to enroll at the school with “conditions” after two misdemeanor charges over a parking lot incident. Video of the altercation showed Simmons punching a woman who was on the ground.

But a UM source with direct knowledge said Tuesday the university’s full intention at this point is to be suspend Bruce for two games to start the season because there is an expectation of how Hurricanes players should represent themselves and that there should be consequences for their actions.

While taking a photo with a gun is a serious issue, a two-game suspension for Bruce would make MSU’s punishment of Simmons look even more curious.

Bruce, a four-star recruit, was the No. 7 wide receiver in the country according to Rivals. He was the No. 8 player in the state of Florida.
