Nebraska is looking for a new starter along its offensive line.
Coach Mike Riley told reporters Friday that sophomore Jerald Foster, the projected starter at left guard, will miss the 2016 season after injuring his knee earlier this week in practice. Per the Lincoln Journal Star, Foster has a torn MCL that requires surgery.
And because projected No. 2 guard Corey Whitaker is also nursing a knee injury (and should be back early in the year), Riley said the Huskers could turn to redshirt freshman Jalin Barnett or true freshman Boe Wilson in the season opener. Wilson was reportedly working with the first-team offense on Thursday.

Foster was slated to take the reins at left guard from senior Dylan Utter, who moved to center. Riley said Utter will stay at center.
In other news, Riley confirmed that backup quarterback A.J. Bush will transfer. Bush was working as the team’s No. 3 quarterback behind starter Tommy Armstrong and Ryker Fyfe. Nebraska also transfer Tanner Lee, who started two years at Tulane, and true freshman Patrick O’Brien. Lee will sit out this year due to NCAA transfer rules. O’Brien is slated to redshirt, but will likely move up to third on the depth chart because of Bush’s decision.

Bush, a sophomore, is headed to Iowa Western, his father told the Omaha World-Herald.
The Huskers open Sept. 3 at home against Fresno State.
