Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson thinks his team quit, but the Singing Arkansas Lady doesn't believe it and she has yet another song to prove it.
This time, she's covering "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden and Whitehead and, unlike last week's rendition of Cher's "United We Stand," this is just sad.
Arkansas lost to Alabama 52-0. Coach John L. Smith has no answers, Wilson, who didn't play in the game because of injury, is calling his teammates quitters, and the Hogs somehow have to get ready for a Rutgers team that's 3-0.
"There has been a lot of people jump off of the bandwagon and it is my job to keep everyone in this organization and this team in that locker room together," Wilson said after the game. "I am going to make sure of it going forward. We've got a big game against Rutgers next week. I am going to do everything in my power to be a part of it and be the starting quarterback when we run out onto the field. And most importantly, get a win. You have to start with one before you can get the rest of them. I give you my word, I am going to do the best I can to make that happen."
While the Singing Arkansas Lady might be trying to find a positive in the Razorbacks' season, which is now 1-2, most of the fanbase is calling for Smith's head. A Facebook page called "Fire John L. Smith" got roaring Saturday night and as of Monday morning, it had more than 14,000 likes.
Yes, Smith, who has a 10-month contract, is directly in the line of fan ire, but perhaps the one to blame for this debacle (if you want to blame someone) is the man who threw the Razorbacks' season into chaos in the first place. Former coach Bobby Petrino had a team that by all accounts should have been challenging for not only the SEC title, but the national title. But his motorcycle accident and affair started the program down a road from which it has yet to recover.
Smith took over the Arkansas program in late April, he didn't have much time to get his team prepared and this is the result. So while Smith should shoulder some of the blame for the Razorbacks' season - as should the players - this snowball got rolling months ago.
