Second-year Kansas coach David Beaty began to tear up during his press conference Saturday following the Jayhawks’ 55-6 win against Rhode Island.

It was Kansas’ first win since Nov. 8, 2014 and Beaty’s first win as a head coach after a winless 2015.

“Well, I’ve never been through what we went through last year,” Beaty said. “That’s hard. That’s very… Personally, it’s difficult. I got emotional with those guys. Obviously, I’m overjoyed for them.”
While Beaty was emotional about the win, he was happy the fans didn’t tear down the goal posts as they had during previous wins even though the team hadn’t had much recent success.
“We’ve got to have higher standards here,” Beaty said. “We would never rush that court at Allen Fieldhouse. Other places may do that, but we don’t. And we don’t need to do that here.”
