The hit on Notre Dame receiver Torii Hunter, Jr. during Sunday’s Texas game was reviewed by Big 12 officials and was not deemed “an egregious foul.”

The play occurred late in the third quarter when Hunter went up to catch a would-be touchdown pass and was hit by Texas safety DeShon Elliott. Hunter was knocked to the turf where he laid for several minutes before being helped to the locker room. he did not return.

The ACC officials on the field did not call targeting and the review by Big 12 officials, which were in charge of replay, agree with the no-call.
“The play was reviewed and replay did not feel the action warranted an egregious foul, which is the standard to be applied for replay involvement in targeting fouls that are not called on the field,” Walt Anderson, the Big 12’s supervisor of officials, said in a statement to USA Today.

Hunter suffered a concussion on the play and is currently undergoing concussion protocol to determine whether he’ll be available for this week’s contest against Nevada.
