Michigan State linebacker Ed Davis can officially rejoin the Spartans.

MSU coach Mark Dantonio said Friday that Davis has been cleared by the NCAA to receive a sixth year of eligibility. Dantonio said in November that Davis intended to apply for the waiver after he missed the 2015 season because of a torn ACL.

Davis graduated over the summer and applied for the waiver upon his graduation. He redshirted at Michigan State as a freshman in 2011.

Davis was Michigan State’s fourth-leading tackler in 2014 with 58 tackles and also had seven sacks. His return boosts a linebacking corps that also returns MLB Riley Bullough and OLB Jon Reschke. Bullough led the team with 106 tackles in 2015 while Reschke had 75.

Michigan State is off in Week 2 after opening the season vs. Furman. The Spartans play at Notre Dame in Week 3, one of the many great matchups over the weekend. Davis has been practicing with Michigan State as he continues to work his way back from the injury so we’re betting he’ll get significant playing time vs. the Irish.
