The beauty of beating a rival is the ability to say just about anything in the aftermath, and Western Kentucky coach Willie Taggart took advantage of his moment.
In an epic interview with WTVQ-TV in Kentucky, Taggart tosses aside any understated victory speech and made Kentucky fans feel much, much worse about losing in overtime to Western Kentucky.
Taggart starts by answering a question and then can't help but let it out, yelling, "I will tell you this: The WKU red is the new blue in Kentucky now, baby! How 'bout that?"
There won't be many better quotes in college football this year:
Taggart deserved to gloat after that win. That was Western Kentucky's first win over a BCS conference team since it came to the FBS in 2009, and it came against its in-state rival. WKU was bold at the end, going for a trick play on a 2-point conversion in overtime for the win. The throwback pass from running back Antonio Andrews to quarterback Kawaun Jakes was a gutsy play call, and it worked to perfection:
Taggart's next mission is to make sure his team doesn't lose its focus after such a huge victory, and he made it clear that beating UK wasn't the only thing the Hilltoppers wanted to accomplish this season:
"I think our guys are really locked into what we're trying to do as a football team," Taggart said, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal. "We weren't trying to just win the Kentucky game. We have a lot more goals than just winning that game."
