Florida looked to an SEC foe to find its new athletic director.
According to USA Today, ESPN and the Orlando Sentinel, the school will name Mississippi State’s Scott Stricklin its new AD on Tuesday. Stricklin will replace Jeremy Foley, the longtime Gators AD who announced his retirement in June. Foley’s tenure as athletic director will end on Oct. 1.
Several outlets, including Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde, reported last week that Stricklin emerged as the top candidate in Florida’s search to succeed Foley.
Stricklin, 45, is a 1992 Mississippi State graduate and has been MSU’s athletic director since 2010. He previously worked as an associate AD at Tulane, Baylor and Kentucky and worked in media relations at Auburn and as an undergraduate at his alma mater.
With Stricklin assuming the role as full-time athletic director, Foley will be the school’s “Emeritus Athletics Director.” Foley, 63, is in his 25th year as AD. He was introduced on March 9, 1992. The Gators have won 27 national titles in 13 different sports under his watch.
