Welcome back into our lives, Jared Lorenzen.
Lorenzen, famously known as the "Hefty Lefty" during his days as Kentucky's quarterback -- and later as a backup with the New York Giants -- decided to take some shots at Florida right before his alma mater plays the Gators.
Kentucky doesn't need Florida to be fired up, but Lorenzen ripped Brent Pease, Florida's offensive coordinator who held that same title when the always outspoken Lorenzen was playing at Kentucky. Here are the comments, via the Saturday Down South blog:
"Seriously Brent Pease at Florida?" tweeted Lorenzen. "He's freaking crazy and was brutal at UK when I was there. Won't be able to handle it and will be run out!"
Pease heard of Lorenzen's comments (Did you know Lorenzen was commissioner of the Ultimate Indoor Football League? We always knew he had upper management written all over him), and fired back, offering that maybe the words were incentive to drop 50 points on Kentucky.
"I coached Jared. Jared is one of those guys talking trash when I took this job. So that's good for about two extra launch plays, trying to get 50 points on those guys when they come to campus."
Later Pease told the Miami Herald that Lorenzen was a "good kid," likely trying to draw attention away from his own comments.
Poor Joker Phillips. The Kentucky coach is already off to a bad start, and now he has a former player poking the bear and making Florida mad. The Louisville Courier-Journal asked Phillips about it, and Phillips jokingly told the media he didn't need Lorenzen's help:
"Tell Jared to shut the hell up," he joked. "Tell Pease that Jared is sorry, OK? I'll apologize for him."
Lorenzen shutting up? That's not good for any of us innocent bystanders. The good news is it probably won't happen.
