Devon Walker will be on the minds of Tulane's football players and coaches all season, and the team is doing what it can to honor its injured safety.
Players and coaches had a few ways of showing support for Walker, who fractured his spine in a frightening collision on Sept. 8 against Tulsa. For Tulane's first game since Walker's injury, players wore the normal Green Wave decal on one side of the helmet, but each of them also had Walker's jersey number "18" on the left side of the helmet. The coaches, including head coach Curtis Johnson, got in the act, as well, wearing T-shirts that are replicas of Walker's jersey. Those shirts are being sold by Tulane with proceeds going to the Devon Walker fund.
Before the game, Tulane cornerback Alex Lauricella ran onto the field holding up Walker's jersey to the crowd. There were many signs of support for Walker throughout the Superdome from Green Wave fans.

Ole Miss did its part by wearing a "DW" helmet decal, a classy gesture by an opposing team.
Tulane lost 39-0 to Ole Miss. The Green Wave players and coaches can be excused if they've had their minds on something other than football these past couple weeks.
