Baylor’s hopes of a Big 12 title are all but gone.

The Bears lost their second-straight game Saturday, this time to TCU. And it wasn’t even close in a 62-22 blowout.

TCU dominated No. 17 Baylor in almost every facet of the game. The Horned Frogs ran 59 times for 431 yards on Baylor’s defense while holding a stout Baylor rushing attack to 133 yards on 45 carries. Of course, Baylor was forced to worry more about the pass game in the second half. TCU entered halftime with a 38-14 lead.

The win came as some fans at Baylor attempted to honor former coach Art Briles. Black “#CAB” shirts were sold in a lot outside McLane Stadium before the game and someone in a suite decided it would be a good idea to post a banner with the hashtag outside the suite during the game.

TCU running back Kyle Hicks had 26 carries for 192 yards and five touchdowns. He scored on a 22-yard touchdown that made the game 24-7 in the second quarter and helped set up the blowout to come.

One play later, Baylor quarterback Seth Russell was intercepted by cornerback Ranthony Texada, who jumped a comeback route. Texada returned the pick 28 yards for a touchdown and TCU was up 31-7.

Two weeks ago, Baylor was sitting pretty. But it’s pretty clear that Baylor was 6-0 as a product of a very weak first half of its schedule. The Bears did beat Oklahoma State, but its second-best win was … Iowa State? SMU? Exactly, there’s not much to choose from. Outside of those three teams, Baylor played Northwestern State, Kansas and Rice. There weren’t too many tests.

There will be tests as we go forward in November, and it’s not a stretch to think Baylor will end up with four losses. The Bears still have to play Oklahoma, Kansas State and West Virginia along with Texas Tech in Dallas.

And for TCU, well, we’re still not sure if we can get a read on the Horned Frogs. TCU is now 5-4 with games against Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas State to go. It wouldn’t be surprising to see coach Gary Patterson’s team end up 8-4 or finish the season 5-7.
