Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly isn’t a fan of what Alabama did to prepare for the LSU game.
The Tide used former quarterback John Parker Wilson and former running back Trent Richardson on the scout team before playing the Tigers. The former NFL players mimicked LSU QB Danny Etling and RB Leonard Fournette.
Via BlueandGold.com, Kelly thinks the practice of using former pros for practice is “absolutely ludicrous.”
Alabama coach Nick Saban made sure that the team cleared using Wilson and Richardson with the SEC and NCAA. You can count Kelly as someone who would like to see a rule change prohibiting the use of former players.

Given other schools’ response to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and his satellite camp tours, it’s going to be fascinating to see if there’s widespread mimicry of Saban’s usage of former pros. If Alabama wasn’t successful, the chances of it becoming a trend would be minimal. But in a world where everyone is looking to beat the best, Saban could be starting something that opponents of the idea could adopt if they feel they’re losing an edge.
