Hawaii coach Nick Rolovich took drastic action as his team was getting blown out by No. 22 Boise State.
As the Warriors were losing big in the third quarter, Rolovich decided his team didn’t need very many places to sit. So he had the benches removed from the sideline.
Really.

This is certainly one of the most unusual motivational tactics we’ve seen this season. Who likes sitting on the bench in the first place?

While we understand Rolovich felt his team might have been complacent, doing this while down 42-3 in the second half doesn’t seem like the best time. If you’re looking for a spark, maybe do it in the second quarter after Boise State took a 14-0 lead after the first?
Hawaii needed the upset of the Broncos to have any shot at a bowl game. The Warriors entered the game at 4-6 and needed to go undefeated the rest of the season get a bowl berth.
