– If you love a good ground game, this contest is for you. Both of these teams boast stellar running backs — Jamaal Williams for BYU and Brian Hill for Wyoming. In nine games, Williams has rushed for 1,165 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Hill, who played in 13 games, has 1,767 yards and 21 touchdowns. Since this will be the main offensive weapon for both teams, the rushing defenses will need to be on alert. That’s a good thing for BYU, which ranks ninth nationally against the run, allowing 108.4 yards on the ground. Wyoming, on the other hand, is giving up 202.7 rushing yards.

– Welcome back to the starting lineup quarterback Tanner Mangum. Mangum is replacing Taysom Hill, who suffered his fourth season-ending injury against Utah State. Mangum last started in 2015, but was unable to beat Hill out for the starting role this season. While Williams will be the focal point of the offense, Mangum isn’t afraid to air it out. In 2015, Mangum threw for 3,377 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
– These two teams haven’t met since they were both in the Mountain West Conference, and those were not good memories for the Cowboys. Since 2000 — through the WAC and Mountain West Conferences — BYU is 10-1 against the Cowboys. The only loss came in 2003 as the Cowboys squeaked out a 13-10 victory. The other contests were fairly lopsided, including two BYU shutouts in 2008 and 2009.
Mascot fight prediction: Could a cowboy wrangle a cougar? Perhaps, but it’s more likely the cowboy would just shoot the cougar if it attacked him. Advantage, armed cowboy.
