Michigan WR Freddy Canteen transferring to Notre Dame

Michigan wide receiver Freddy Canteen will join Notre Dame this summer as a graduate transfer.

The Fighting Irish announced Wednesday that Canteen will graduate from Michigan in April and enroll at Notre Dame in June, giving him two years of eligibility.

“I’m truly honored and humbled for this incredible opportunity,” Canteen said in a release. “I’m very thankful to Coach (Brian) Kelly and his staff for believing in me. I’m excited to start this new chapter in my and can’t wait to get going with my new teammates.”

Canteen, who will be eligible to play for the Fighting Irish this fall, caught six passes for 22 yards and one touchdown in 16 games with the Wolverines across the past two seasons.

Canteen was rated a four-star prospect when coming out of Maryland’s Eastern Christian Academy in 2014.

“Freddy will bring some speed and athleticism to our wide receiver group,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said in a release. “We’re excited to get him on campus with our coaching staff and players in preparation for the 2017 season. Freddy is a committed, focused and determined individual, both on and off the field, and our receivers and offense will benefit greatly from his addition.”
