Florida State’s first day of spring ball brought some good news and some bad news regarding its secondary.
First things first: Derwin James is a full-go for the Seminoles this spring after missing the final 11 games of the 2016 season because of knee surgery.

The bad news? Junior cornerback Tarvarus McFadden is out for the spring with a torn labrum — something he played with all of last season, according to coach Jimbo Fisher.
McFadden tied for the national lead last season with eight interceptions. Fortunately for the Seminoles, the secondary is loaded, especially with the return of James, who, during his freshman year of 2015, finished second on the ‘Noles in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles and recoveries.
James received a redshirt for 2016, since his injury occurred in Week 2, meaning he will be a redshirt sophomore this season.
