Jedd Fisch isn’t the only member of Michigan’s 2016 football program that’s heading to UCLA. The Bruins announced Thursday that former Wolverine tight end Devin Asiasi was joining the team.

Asiasi was a freshman in 2016. He’ll have to sit out the 2017 season and will be eligible in 2018. He’s a California native; he played high school football at De La Salle in Concord.
His father posted a thank you to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and assistant coach Jay Harbaugh on Twitter Thursday evening. Jay is Michigan’s tight ends coach.

Asiasi — who had two catches for 18 yards and a TD as a freshman — had a chance to take over as Michigan’s starting tight end in 2017 after the departure of Jake Butt to the NFL. Instead he’ll be working with Fisch again, who was Michigan’s passing game coordinator in 2016.
Fisch was hired as UCLA’s offensive coordinator in the offseason. He’s tasked with fixing a UCLA offense that struggled even when star quarterback Josh Rosen was healthy. The Bruins were unable to have a consistent running game at all in 2016 as running back Paul Perkins was in the NFL.
Asiasi was a big-time recruit in 2016. He was a four-star recruit and the No. 2 tight end in the country according to Rivals. His addition comes a year after the Bruins lost a highly-ranked tight end signee to transfer. Chris Clark, who was the No. 1 tight end in the class of 2015, signed with UCLA but decided to transfer after the first game in the season. Clark, who played high school football in Connecticut, is now at Pitt.
