Now here's an idea Charlie Weis can get behind.
In Oregon State's student paper, there was a half-page advertisement supporting quarterback Cody Vaz, who will be making his first career start at BYU. Normal starter Sean Mannion had knee surgery this week and will miss some time.
Vaz's first starting assignment isn't an easy one, against a BYU defense that has allowed only 10 points in its last three games, but the students have his back.
The advertisement, tweeted by Oregon State receivers coach Brent Brennan, simply says "Cody Vaz we believe in you. Beaver Nation."
That might not help Vaz on Saturday against a tough Cougars defense on third and long, but it should make him feel pretty good.
As for Mannion, he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, according to the Corvallis Gazette-Times. He was out at practice this week and told the paper he isn't sure when he'll be back, but he was day-to-day.
"I feel good, and talking with the surgeon after the operation he said it couldn't have gone any better," Mannion said. "Obviously, it was a huge bummer to know I had to have surgery. But ever since then, everything I've heard has been real good news."
Mannion's loss is a big blow to the No. 10 Beavers, but his absence gives Vaz a chance to validate the Oregon State students' belief in him.
