Earlier this week, student-athletes, coaches and staff from the University of Minnesota got together in support of Gophers wide receiver Connor Cosgrove and decided to shave their heads.
Cosgrove (left in the above photo) is currently battling leukemia and convinced Minnesota athletics to participate in a head-shaving event for cancer awareness with the help of the St. Baldrick's Foundation and Great Clips.
"What this youngster's [Connor Cosgrove] gone through is much more difficult than anything I've been through," coach Jerry Kill said during his weekly press conference. "He's a young person, and to take on what he has and mentally stay where he's at . . . he's helped all of us more than we've helped him."
Kill is a survivor of kidney cancer and pitching coach Todd Oakes is a survivor of acute myeloid leukemia.
More than 80 people affiliated with the football program participated, including players, coach Kill, GAs, equipment staff and members of the strength and conditioning staff. Several other athletes also joined in the cause, including women's volleyball player Mia Tabberson.
"We've got good kids. I'm not just talking about football kids. You've got volleyball players, you've got gals," Kill said. "There's a lot of good people in this state, and there's a lot of good people at this university and a lot of good people in the sports program. I just think it's a reflection of young people."
