Every year about this time of year, seniors say their tearful good-byes to the football program, fans and friends who have played a major role for the previous four or five years.
But when Penn State seniors take the field Sunday, the emotion will be multiplied. Senior cornerback Stephon Morris earlier this week gave a candid answer about the feelings he'll experience when he runs out of the tunnel for the final time on Saturday.
Five months ago, Penn State seniors stood in unison and declared their intentions to finish their careers as Nittany Lions despite crippling NCAA sanctions against the school. While at the time, some saw the stance as foolish bravado, others saw it as a brave choice to stay with the program that launched their college careers.
And in the end, the players were right. Even though there's no postseason reward, this season has been more rewarding than any other at Penn State. The Nittany Lions are 7-4, in second place in the Leaders Division and have achieved more than any pundit could have predicted.
Every senior who takes the field for Penn State this weekend should be proud of the legacy he'll leave.
