Georgia Tech is known mostly for its running game, but if it should want to throw the ball at any point against USC during the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31, the Yellow Jackets will be without their top target.
Jeff Greene, who led the team with 18 catches for 248 yards and two touchdowns, has left the team after a clash with coaches. Greene's high school coach, Chad Phillips, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Georgia Tech coaches were disappointed in Greene's effort and attitude, and decided that their relationship just wasn't working.
"It's a crying shame," Phillips told AJC.com. "The [coaches] bent over backwards to help him. He was on his way to getting a college degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. It's a shame he had to be a little selfish."
Greene, a sophomore who started seven games, didn't get a lot of looks in Georgia Tech's option offense, but he was in the mold of former Tech star Demaryious Thomas, who made the most of his limited catches and went on to be a first-round NFL draft pick.
Phillips didn't say where he expected Greene to land.
With Greene gone, Georgia Tech will turn to Orwin Smith and Robert Godhigh as its next top two targets.
