Reuben Foster has quite an interesting life story to tell, one that has nothing to do with the Auburn tattoo on his arm or wearing a Nick Saban costume when he signed with Alabama last week.
Foster was shot as a baby, survived and became a five-star recruit at linebacker. His father escaped from jail after being convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend and him, and his father was on the run from the law for 16 years until last Friday, when he was finally arrested in Miami.
Foster's father was finally arrested the same week his son had one of the biggest moments of his life by signing a letter or intent to play football at Alabama.
Quite an incredible week for the Foster family.
The Randolph Leader had the news of Danny Foster's arrest. According to the Leader, in November of 1995, Foster shot his ex-girlfriend Inita Berry (whose last name is now Paige) in the back. Berry's friend was hit in the arm, but treated and released. Berry was holding her baby, Reuben Foster, and the baby was shot as well. All three survived. After Danny Foster briefly escaped after making bond, he was brought into custody and convicted in November of 1996 of first-degree assault for shooting Berry and second-degree assault for shooting Reuben Foster, the Leader said. He was sentenced to a mandatory 30 years.
A month after he was convicted, Danny Foster sawed through a bar in his cell and escaped Randolph County Jail through a window, the paper reported. He was waiting for transfer to a state prison.
After his escape he went back to the Berry home, held Inita's father at gunpoint asking where Inita was, and left after he couldn't find her. He was on the run until last Friday, when an effort that started last summer culminated in his arrest in Miami.
"Our prayers are with he (Reuben Foster) and his mother that this might bring them justice and closure," Roanoke (Ala.) police chief Adam Melton said, according to the Randolph Leader.
