Houston would be excited to start the 2013 season this fall if it could find a place to play all of its home games.
The Cougars are due to open a new stadium in 2014 after tearing down the old one this offseason. In the meantime, however, Houston was hoping to play all of its home games at Reliant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Well, that was a good idea in theory.
After the NFL schedule was announced last week, the Cougars realized that games on Oct. 12 (Memphis), Nov. 23 (Cincinnati), and Nov. 29 (SMU) were without a home.
“We continue to work around the clock with Reliant Stadium, the NFL and other entities to finalize the location for our three remaining home games,” the school said in a statement.
If Reliant Stadium doesn’t work out, there are other options for Houston around the city. Games could be played at Rice’s stadium or the Cougars could play at BBVA Compass Stadium where the MLS’ Houston Dynamo play.
Rice is actually out of town Oct. 12 and Nov. 23 and plays Tulane at home on Nov. 30. BBVA Compass Stadium, the home of Texas Southern on Saturdays, might be a better solution since the Tigers are out of town on Oct. 12 and their schedule ends Nov. 16.
Houston announced that it will not issue season ticket renewals until the locations of the final three games are announced. If worse comes to worse, could someone lend the Cougars a corn field?
