Iowa State recruit Kamari Cotton-Moya had a very close call less than a month before he came to Ames, as a bullet grazed him and hit his friend as well.

Ultimately it turned out OK, but it's still a scary story he told to the Ames Tribune.

Cotton-Moya, a recruit at cornerback, was leaving a party on May 19 in East Bakersfield, Calif., when a gunshot hit him in the shoulder, and his his friend in the face and shoulder. Both would be fine.

“I feel really blessed to be healthy and to be standing,” Cotton-Moya said, according to the Ames Tribune. “I am fine. Gun shots are a big deal. People die from them every day.”

According to the Ames Tribune, Cotton-Moya said he has no lingering effects from the bullet hitting him and should be a full participant in the summer conditioning program, which is incredibly fortunate. He arrives on campus June 16.

“I am perfectly fine, no surgery or anything,” Cotton-Moya said. “I’m back to full motion.”
