Confirming rumors that had been circulating since Sunday morning, Ohio State has dismissed running back Carlos Hyde after a weekend altercation that resulted in him allegedly striking a female.

The dismissal comes after a long summer for Urban Meyer, a period in which Florida tight end Aaron Hernandez's murder investigation caused many to reevaluate the long list of arrests that occurred while the Buckeyes coach was in Gainesville. I'm not sure how Meyer could take any blame for the Hyde incident, as he didn't recruit the tailback to the program and dismissed him almost immediately after the incident took place.

Meyer dismissed linebacker Storm Klein last summer after he was charged with domestic violence, but reinstated him after Klein was found guilty of a lesser charge. I would guess if the claims against Hyde end up being untrue, he could find his way back on to the Buckeyes' roster as well.

Perhaps even more damaging to Ohio State's national championship aspirations is the arrest of senior cornerback Bradley Roby. The Dispatch has those details as well:

According to Monroe County court records, Roby was arrested early (Sunday) morning in Bloomington and is facing preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury. Sources told The Dispatch he was asked to leave a bar after a disturbance, refused, and was subdued by bouncers at the bar before being taken into custody.

Roby elected to return to Ohio State after collecting 63 tackles, two interceptions and 17 pass breakups last season. He was named to a slew of preseason All-American teams and was expected to be a first-round pick in next year's NFL draft. There's been no word on a punishment for Roby, but we'll keep you updated.
