Practicing football in August in Starkville, Mississippi sounds only slightly preferable to getting your fingernails pulled out with a wrench. So you can understand why the Mississippi State Bulldogs were elated at the prospect of skipping a day of practice to go bowling.
Ah, but one player took the lessons he learned on the field and translated them to success on the lanes. Fast-forward to the three-minute mark to see center Dillon Day hike a bowling ball ... with impressive results. Well done, Mr. Day.
Then again, it's not exactly surprising that Day can hike like a sonofagun. He's played all 26 games in his career, and has started his last 21 games. He's on the 2013 Rimington Trophy Watch List, which eyes the nation's top center. And he's made the SEC's Fall Academic Honor roll, so he's smart enough to know what he's doing.
Now, Mississippi State may not be the best team in the nation, or the SEC, or their division, or their state. That's what happens when you've got Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Ole Miss in your bracket. Most polls have them in the high-30s/low-40s range. But for a moment, at least, these guys are tied with everyone else in the nation, and they're enjoying it.
