No one at USC seems to be ready to choose a QB, including Marqise Lee

Life at Southern Cal seemed so much easier with Matt Barkley under center.

USC is one week away from opening the college football season at Hawaii and the best wide receiver in the nation still is uncertain who will be throwing him the ball. This was obviously never an issue when Barkley was setting school passing records and competing for the Heisman Trophy.

The Trojans completed fall camp Thursday with a scrimmage that provided no answers to whether Max Wittek or Cody Kessler will be the starter, succeeding Barkley.

Lee, who won the Fred Biletnikoff Award last season as the nation's top wide receiver, either didn't want to name his favorite or was unable to.

"It's 50-50," Lee told the AP, grinning. "I know y'all don't want to hear 50-50, but that's all I've got."

Of course it's coach Lane Kiffin's job to make the decision and he has suggested he could continue the competition into the season by playing both quarterbacks. But he's still going to have to send one on the field first a week from today.

Kessler started both halves of the scrimmage with the first-team offense. Wittek started the final two games of last season. Various reports have indicated both players have had their moments in spring and summer practices.

"I'm sitting here just like you guys — lost," Lee said. "I'm going to continue to get work with both. If it's not (decided) Friday, I'm going to continue to work with both until Kiffin decides. Even if he does decide, I'm going to work with both."
