After two 5-7 seasons, expectations and pressure were turned up on Connecticut coach Paul Pasqualoni and his team didn't respond well on the opening night of the college football season by becoming the first program this year to be upset by a team from the Football Championship Subdivision.

The Huskies won't be the last.

Towson handled the UConn 33-18 with running back Terrance West rushing for 156 yards and two scores and generally dominating the line of scrimmage.

UConn's last loss to a Football Championship Subdivision team came in 2001 when it was still making the transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

These kinds of upsets happen every year. For instance, Youngstown State beat Pitt and Tennessee-Martin beat Memphis in Week 1 last year. Back in 2011, Sacramento State beat Oregon State in overtime.

These losses can be devastating and harbingers of a long season ahead, or they sometimes help a team iron out problems and improve. Regardless of which direction the Huskies go from here, you can bet they and their fans will still be talking about this one in December.

They will definitely be talking about it for the next two weeks because the Huskies don't play again until Sept. 14 against Maryland.
