UCF quarterback Blake Bortles did his best Johnny Manziel impression against Akron on Friday night when he fumbled the snap, caught it, composed himself, rushed to the right and then threw a strike to J.J. Worton for the 39-yard touchdown.
The score gave the Knights a 21-0 lead at the time.
Bortles threw for 314 yards to become the first UCF player to throw for more than 300 yards since 2009.
Oddly, this isn’t the first time Bortles has completed a play like this. Last season against Charleston Southern, Bortles had a similar play and had the composure to complete the pass.
So perhaps Bortles wasn’t doing a Manziel impression, he was just being his normal self.
