To cap off the improvements to Bill Snyder Family Stadium before the 2013 season, there was still one thing missing. A statue of Snyder himself.
Fear not, for that statue exists and it was unveiled on Friday morning in a ceremony before Kansas State's season opener against North Dakota State. It stands at the entrance of the new West Stadium Center that was just completed.
The statue measures in at 11.5 feet from base to the top of Snyder's head and weighs 1,800 pounds. According to the university, the statue "depicts the head coach in his signature sideline pose complete with his customary purple jacket, turtleneck, khakis, felt tip purple pen, notepad and most significantly his NIKE Cortez tennis shoes."
The shoes are the most significant part? Yeah, apparel sponsors pay a lot, but that seems like it'd be far down on the list of priorities. (Also, the statue was designed by a KU grad and cast in Lawrence, the home of the University of Kansas. Don't tell that to the KSU folks, OK?)
Snyder is entering his 22nd season as Kansas State's coach and has a career record of 170-85-1 at Kansas State, a program that was winless in its last 27 games before Snyder was hired (the first time) in 1988. (Snyder replaced his successor, Ron Prince, in 2008 after three seasons.)
