The defending FCS champions took out the defending Big 12 champions. No, that's not reversed.
North Dakota State, the FCS preseason No. 1, punished Kansas State for an 18 play, 80 yard drive that took over eight minutes in the fourth quarter to upset the Wildcats in Manhattan 24-21 after quarterback Brock Jensen tumbled into the end zone with 28 seconds remaining.
"This is the biggest win in our program history," quarterback Brock Jensen said. "I am absolutely honored to be apart of it. Absolutely honored... This is the hardest game of my life."
That touchdown run was thanks to some nifty playcalling. After taking the snap, Jensen retreated like he was going to hand the ball off to the tailback. However, the tailback sprinted out to the right and the right guard pulled to the left after the left side of the line pushed Kansas State to the right, opening up a tunnel for Jensen to sneak through and score.
On that drive, North Dakota State converted all four third down opportunities it had and even with the clock ticking towards zeros, was patient enough to stay with the running game. Of the seven plays the Bison ran inside the KSU 35, six were running plays and four netted either six or seven yards. If you didn't know which team was in which division, you wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.
After North Dakota State took a 7-0 lead early, K-State appeared to seize control with 21 unanswered points. But immediately after Daniel Sams scored the Wildcats' final touchdown of the night, NDSU answered with a touchdown drive of their own.
It's not the first time that North Dakota State has beaten a BCS team from Kansas either. In 2010, the back-to-back FCS national champs beat Kansas and have also taken down Minnesota and Colorado State in the previous three seasons.
