LSU came away with three points after mass confusion at the end of the first half in their game against TCU had the Horned Frogs in the locker room and everyone in the stadium wondering what in the heck was going on.

The Tigers were driving against the TCU defense as time wound down in the first half and as quarterback Zack Mettenberger threw an incomplete pass, an offensive lineman's helmet came off. There were five seconds left on the clock, but the officiating crew originally announced that halftime was over. Why? LSU was out of timeouts, and if a player's helmet comes off inside of 90 seconds left and his team is out of timeouts, a 10 second runoff is applied.

Thus the half was over. Or not. After announcing to the stadium that the half was over -- and sending TCU sprinting to the locker room fortunate to only be trailing 13-10 -- the Big 10 officiating crew got together and clarified the situation. The runoff rule did not apply because the clock had already stopped on the incomplete pass.

To compound the matter for TCU, they were assessed a penalty for leaving the field despite the officials' original mistake and what would been a 29-yard field goal attempt became a 23 yarder and Colby Delahoussaye knocked it in for a 16-10 halftime lead. LSU went on to win 37-27.
