Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre became emotional after the Buffaloes 41-27 win over Colorado State last Sunday, but it wasn't just because of his first win as CU's coach.
MacIntyre is the son of a coach. He grew up idolizing his father, George, and eventually played two seasons for him at Vanderbilt. George MacIntyre, now in his mid-70s, has battled multiple sclerosis for years.
Not surprisingly, MacIntyre followed in his dad's footsteps becoming a coach. He carries a coin in his pocket from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year award bearing his father's name. It's a good luck charm of sorts.
When he earned his first victory with the Buffaloes on Sunday against Colorado State, he cried when asked by a sideline reporter in a television interview if he had a message for his dad who lives in Nashville.
"I love you dad," MacIntyre said. "I love you."
It was one of those raw, emotional moments that coaches rarely allow the outside world to see.
